Tyrrell “Ty” Barger

Tyrrell Barger, professionally known as Ty Barger, is a public works and infrastructure leader whose career spans county road and bridge operations, state transportation, municipal public works, and military leadership.
He has led large public-sector workforces and managed responsibilities involving transportation infrastructure, road maintenance, fleet and facilities, capital planning, procurement, contract administration, winter operations, emergency management, and organizational improvement.
As Road & Bridge Superintendent for Ouray County, Colorado, his work has included organizational restructuring, long-range road planning, and development of right-of-way policy. In 2025, the Colorado Association of Road Supervisors and Engineers recognized him as Road Supervisor of the Year.
Earlier, Barger held statewide operational responsibilities with the Nebraska Department of Transportation, where his work included transportation operations support, procurement, fleet and facilities, process improvement, and participation in deicer research. Before that, he managed a 120-person municipal public-works workforce for the City of Lincoln.
His professional work includes development of an innovative winter-maintenance program that reduced overall program costs by approximately 30 percent. He co-authored the Roads & Bridges article “Customizing brine,” has been quoted by Government Fleet and Boise State Public Radio on municipal operations and snow removal, and is the inventor named on U.S. Patent No. 11,613,684 B1.
Before his civilian public-works career, Barger served in the United States Marine Corps, ultimately attaining the rank of Major.
